Alkali: The hydroxides of IA & IIA group elements are called Alkalies. They readily soluble in water. Alkalis are the bases that are soluble in water. All alkalis are bases but all bases are not alkalis.
Base: The hydroxides formed by the elements other than IA & IIA group elements are called Bases. They are not easily soluble in water. Bases are the substances that are soapy to touch and are bitter in taste. They give blue colour with litmus paper .
