I can't understand the 13th question of EX-2.2 please explain me why we subtract 2/3 with both side

Let the number be x According to the question, 5/2x+2/3=-7/12 =5/2x= -7/12-2/3 =5/2x=-15/12 =x=-15/12×2/5 =x=-3/4
