The poet (kamala das) is awared by the fact that no words can cure the pain of mother which was caused by the separation. The poet is also sad just like her mother but she is bound to perform her responsibility of work. The poet knows that maybe this Is the last time she was seeing her mother and to hide this pain she felt that she was unable to say anything and instead of talking she just smiled at the time of departure from airport.
