Factors determining the climate of India:

1)Latitude:The tropic of cancer passes through the middle of the country,so India has the characteristics of tropical as well as sub-tropical climates.

2)Altitude:India has mountains in the north which have an average height of 6,000metres and the vast coastline where the maximum elevation is about 30metres.It is because of the mountains that India experiences comparatively milder winters.

3)Pressure and Winds:The pressure and wind conditions over India are unique.During winters ,there is a high pressure areanorth of the Himalayas. In summers ,a low pressure area develops over interior Asia as well as over north western India.
