Peristalsis is the process by which food travels in the alimentary canal. It is a series of muscular contractions occurring in the alimentary canal that push the food forward from one part to the another part. The progressive wave of contraction and relaxation of a tubular muscular system. and or the alimentary canal, by which the contents are forced through the system.
