Difference between an allel and gene
  • 1 answers

Yogita Ingle 7 years, 5 months ago

Gene is a stretch of a DNA that determines a particular trait.  Genes can mutate and take two or more alternative forms, now these are called alleles of a particular gene. Now allele occurs in a fixed spot in a chromosome and in humans we have two sets of chromosomes.  A gene is a part of the DNA. Alleles on the other hand refer to different versions of the same gene. Alleles occur in pairs but there is no such pairing for genes.
