Usually the people are unable to overcome there fear but douglas doesnt looses his hope and had overcome his fear of water. Many dangerous incidents happened with douglas which raised hos fear from water but douglas started learning swimming with the help of his personal trainer and be able to swim ( plse check the time period in the book) and after tht he was not satisfied tht he has overcome his fear, for being sure he swimmed through many rivers, lakes, etc and then he became sure tht he has ovecame his fear from water and gave the lesson tht we should not fear from our fear...Hope it helped?
