Therfore, total no.of electron =5

Listen , it does'nt required any solving method. We know, l=2 that means, m = -2,-1,0,+1,+2 Given that , m= +2 i.e electron will be placed in (+2 )subshell. Here, S= +1/2 (which shows that electron is unpaired.) Therefore, we put electron to each subshell then we get , 5 electron. i.e. -2=1 electron (+1/2) -1=1 electron (+1/2) 0=1 electron (+1/2) +1=1 electron(+1/2) +2=1 electron(+1/2) So, m= +2 , s=+1/2 given, Total electron in it is 1 . Hope u understand.
