The process of digestion started in mouth itself were the food mixed with saliva. Saliva secreted by salivary plants which contain digestive juices help in the breakdown of starch into sugar. Further digestion of food takes place in the stomach. The inner wall of stomach secrets digestive juices, hydrochloride acid and mucus. The digestive juices help in the breakdown of protein into similar form. Further digestion of food takes place in the small intestines where the secretion of the liver and pancreatic are released.
