Isomerism is the phenomenon of the existence of isomers - the existence of different substances with the same molecular formulae. Types : Structural Isomerism, Stereo Isomerism. Functional isomerism: This type of isomerism is due to difference in the nature of functional group present in the isomers, e.g. C2H6O : 1. Ethyl alcohol CH3-CH2-OH (Alcoholic group) 2. Dimethyl ether CH3-O-CH3 (Ether group )
