This is the answer for exam point of view The slum children are burdened by the responsibilities that they have to undertake at tender age and by the expectations of their parents. They are burdened by the thought of their hopless future at this slum school. They are torn due to neglection and poverty that has left them like scattered bits of bottles with broken future.

I know the general reason only not the reason from book or else I.e they are burdened in order to get more labour done for very less price, they even do not reply like the usual labourers and obey every command for little money
