Why replication in the lagging strand occur in a discontinuous fashion?

It is bcoz replication always take place from 5' -3' end.....in template strand which is 3'-5', antiparallel strand is synthesized from 5'-3' nd replication start just after opening of replication fork..... but in another strand which is 5'-3' it waits for fork to open little bit...then from 5'-3' end replication takes place in fragments because it waits for opening of fork..... this is why it is discontinuous.....refer diagram in book it will be clear
