The shape of cells depend on the type of work or the function done by them .They may be spherical, rounded, cuboidal, tubular, discoidal or irregular. for e.g. spindle shape of the muscle cell helps it to contract and relax,so as the sperm cell has a tail to help it posses motion and help it move. There are many more examples such as the blood cell RBCs they are concave shape to help them cu cut through the fluid.
It also depends on the cytoskeleton.
