the process of breakdown of food in the presence of oxygen is called respiration there are two type of respiration aerobic respiration and anaerobic respiration in aerobic respiration the food breaks down with the release of energy in the presence of oxygen with a large amount of energy released but in anaerobic respiration it takes place in the absence of oxygen with very less amount of energy released..
