Pcl3 is more stable because The actual reason for unstability of PCl5 is because of presence of two axial bonds which form an angle of 90 deg with the triangular plane consisting of 1 P and 3 Cl atoms. Thus due to greater repulsions at axial positions in PCl5, it dissociates to give PCl3 and Cl2. f
