Jo refused to be dominated by the opinion of her father. She wanted the story to end with the wizard hitting the mommy of Roger skunk as she felt that the fragrance of roses was far better than the foul smell of the skunk.

Jo doesn't want the story to end as his father wants. According to his father the story must end with hitting the wizard on the head by Roger skunk's mommy. Instead of that Jo want the wizard to hit mommy. She thought that the pleasant fragrance of the roses are good for skunk but mommy was concerned about skunk's safety.
