A form of asexual reproduction in plants, in whichmulticellular structures become detached fromthe parent plant and develop into new individualsthat are genetically identical to the parent plant.For example, liverworts and mosses form smallclumps of tissue (called gemmae) that aredispersed by splashing raindrops to form newplants. Bulbs, corms, offsets, rhizomes, runners,suckers, and tubers are all important means ofvegetative reproduction and propagation incultivated plants.
