Yes, this is very much necessary that the states should adopt a policy of compromise and accommodation to save planet Earth. There have been a difference in the approach to environment between the countries of the North and the South i.e., between the developed countries and the developing countries. However, at the Rio Summit in 1992, the principle of ‘common but differentiated responsibilities’ was accepted. The Rio Declaration states that ‘States shall cooperate in the spirit of global partnership to conserve, protect and restore the health and integrity of the Earth’s ecosystem’. In 1992, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change has also emphasised that the states should act to protect the climate system ‘on the basis of equity’ and the largest share should be borne by the developed countries. At Kyoto Protocol, China and India were exempted from its requirements. Thus, policies of compromise and accommodation have been followed to save planet Earth.

India’s security strategy has four broad components which are explained below :
(i) India’s first component is the strengthening of military capabilities. India has been involved in conflicts with its neighbours–Pakistan in 1947-48,1965,1971 and 1999; and China in 1962. India is surrounded by nuclear armed countries in the South Asian region.
(ii) The second component of India’s security has been to strengthen international norms and international institutions to protect its security interests.
(iii) The third component has been to preserve national unity by adopting a democratic political system which allows different communities and groups of people to freely articulate their grievances and share political power.
(iv) The fourth component of India’s security has been to develop its economy in a way that vast mass of citizens are lifted out of poverty and misery and huge economics qualities are not allowed to exist.

India's role in Non-Aligned Movement was significant for reasons mentioned below :
(i) First Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru was one of the five founders of NAM.
(ii) As a leader of NAM, India stayed away from the two camps. Not only this, India asked the newly decolonised countries not to become part Of those alliances.
(iii) It was a policy not of ‘being neutral’ but of active intervention too. India intervened in the Korea war. India tried to involve other members of the non-aligned group with her. India repeatedly tried to activate those regional and international organisations which were not part of the alliances led by the US and USSR.
India was criticised for signing the Treaty of Friendship in August 1971 with the USSR as virtually joining the Soviet alliance system. But in fact India needed diplomatic and possibly military support during the Bangladesh crisis. Moreover, it did not stop India from having good relations with USA and other countries.
