1. The lack of genuine international support for a democratic rule in Pakistan has encouraged the military to continue its dominance. The US and other countries have also supported military rule due to fulfilling their own interests.
2. Pakistan’s conflict with India has made paramilitary groups more powerful which have often said that political parties and democracy in Pakistan are flawed, that Pakistan’s security would be harmed by selfishly minded parties and chaotic democracy, hence army stays in power is justified.
3. The social dominance of military, clergy, and owning aristocracy has led to a frequent overthrow of elected governments and the establishment of military governments.
4. Global Islamic Terrorism and their apprehension that Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal might fall into hands of these terrorist groups, the military regime in Pakistan were seen as the protector of western interests in West Asia and South Asia.
The two pro-democracy factors present in Pakistan that can pave the way for establishing a lasting democratic set up over there are:
1. Pakistan bears a courageous and entirely free press.
2. Pakistan enjoys a strong human rights movement.

Four reasons for the dominance of the Congress Party in the first three general elections in India:
i) The Congress Party had inherited the legacy of the National Movement. Moreover, it was the only political party to have an organisation spread all over the country.
ii) The Congress Party had the most popular and charismatic leader in Nehruji. The party got 364 of the 489 seats in the first Lok Sabha elections and finished way ahead of any other challenger.
iii) It was already a well-organised party and till other parties could reach up to their level, Congress had already begun with its campaigning. This gave the party ‘first off the blocks’ advantage.
iv) By the time the country was independent, the party had spread its wings to the local level.
v) In the second and third general elections held in 1957 and 1962, respectively, the Congress Party kept its position intact in the Lok Sabha. This was due to the First Past the Post system followed in our electoral process.
In this way, the Congress ruled all over the country at the national and state levels.

‘Resources Geopolitics’ is all about who gets what, when, where and how? The practices of neo-colonialism spread on a large scale and throughout a cold war, industrialised countries adopted methods to ensure a steady flow of resources by deployment of military forces near exploitation sites and sea-lanes of communications, the stock pilling of strategic resources and efforts to prop up friendly governments.
