Effects on civil liberties for citizens : The government made extensive use of preventive detention. People were arrested on the apprehension that they may commit an offence. The government made large scale arrests during the Emergency. Arrested persons could not challenge their arrest through habeas corpus petitions. Even Supreme Court gave a judgment in favour of the government. Hence, civil liberties for citizens were curtailed.

NIEO is the New International Economic Order. NIEO was a set of proposals put forward during the 1970s by the developing countries with the following main objectives:
(i) To revise the international economic system in favour of the developing countries.
(if) The developing nations wanted a system that would give them a real control over their natural resources.
(iii) The developing countries wanted to set up a system under which they could get a fairer price for raw materials, and better access for their manufactured goods in the developed countries markets.
(iv) Developing countries must be entitled to regulate and control the activities of the Multinational Corporations (MNCs) .

Vishala Andhra movement was started which demanded Telugu speaking areas be seperated from Madras as nearly all the political forces were in favour of it.
Potti Sriramulu, a Congress leader and a veteran Gandhian went on an indefinite fast and ultimately died after 56 days. This caused great unrest and resulted in violent outburst. Even legislators had also resigned from their seats. As a result of these events formation of a separate Andhra state was announced in December 1952.
