Current is net effect of movement of free electrons throughout the conductor described by amount of charge crossing through a cross section of conductor per unit tim. It's not described as the movement of charge throughout the conductor from one point to another point . So current cannot decrease in this way. The amount of charge crossing a cross section per unit time is unaffected.
