The reasons may be
a) these materials are preffered because of their lower value of energy gap. SO that they can be activated using solar radiation.
b) their V-I characteristics are similar to a semiconductor.
Solar cell means when exposed to light, can generate and support an electric current without being attached to any external voltage source. And GaAS and Si are the semiconductors and preffered so.

Photodiode: It is a pn junction whose function is controlled by the light allowed to fall on it. Suppose, the wavelength is such that the energy of a photon, hc/λ, is sufficient to break a valance bond. When such light falls on the junction, new hole-electron pairs are created. The number of charge carriers increases and hence the conductivity of the junction increases. If the junction is connected in some circuit, the current in the circuit is controlled by the intensity of the incident light.
Zener diode: It is a diode meant to operate in the breakdown region. In a zener diode the breakdown occur by direct breaking of valance bonds due to high electric field. Large number of electron hole pairs created due to the breakdown takes part in conduction. Once the breakdown occurs, the potential difference across the diode doesn’t increase even if the applied battery potential is increased. Such diodes are used to obtain constant voltage output.

Thanks for the help

Pari Patel 6 years, 2 months ago

Because it gives constant voltage even at high current supply after reaching the breakdown voltage

Refraction: The bending of light when it travels from one medium to another is known as Refraction. Normally, when a light travels from a denser medium to a rarer medium, the light changes its direction and moves away from the normal and while travelling from lighter medium to a denser medium it shifts its direction and moves closer to the normal.

Force is directly proportional to the charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. F =k×((q1×q2)/r^2) Where k=proportionality constant k=1/(4(pi)(epicilon⁰))

Cutaneous respiration is the respiration or gas exchange carried through skin.
in some vertebrates the body surface has become highly vascularized for gaseous exchange. Such exchange is of particular importance in the class Amphibia, where mucous glands in the skin maintain a moist respiratory surface; and in the soft-shelled turtles.
Frog skin has mucous producing glands that help keep it moist. Frogs also depends on cutaneous respiration for their oxygen supply. In this method of respiration, oxygen from the air is drawn into a frog's body by the blood vessels that lie close to the skin. Waste gas and carbon dioxide are also released the same way. In order for all the transfer to take place, frog's skin must be moist.

form of respiration in which gas exchange occurs across the skin ?
