Bernier’s Travels in the Mughal Empire is marked by detailed observations, critical insights and reflection. His account contains discussions trying to place the history of the Mughals within some sort of a universal framework. He constantly compared Mughal India with contemporary Europe, generally emphasising the superiority of the latter. His representation of India works on the model of binary opposition, where India is presented as the inverse of Europe. He also ordered the perceived differences hierarchically, so that India appeared to be inferior to the Western world.

Founder of Mauryan Dynasty: Chandragupta Maurya was the founder of Mauryan dynasty in India. As soon as Alexander returned from India the very news of his sudden death was enough for causing the reign of lawlessness and disorder. Chandragupta Maurya, who was in search of such an occasion proceeded ahead and joined with the people who were rising their voices against Alexander. He succeeded in causing the Greeks to flee from India in 332 B.C and later defeated the ruler of Magadha and established Mayryan Empire.

The 6th century BCE is regarded as a major turning point in early Indian history for the following reasons:
- It is an era associated with early states, cities, the growing use of iron, the development of coinage, etc.
- This era witnessed the growth of the diverse system of thoughts like Buddhism and Jainism.
- Iron axes and ploughshares came into the scene. With the help of these tools, it became easier to clear forest around the mid-gangetic plains, and with the iron ploughshare agriculture productivity increased manifolds.

Akbar’s Darbar were as:
(i) The physical arrangement of the court, focused on the sovereign, mirrored his status as the heart of society.
(ii) Its centrepiece was therefore the throne, which gave physical form to the function of the sovereign as axis mundi.
(iii) The canopy, a symbol of kingship in India for a millennium, was believed to separate the radiance of the sun from that of the sovereign.
(iv) In court, status was determined by spatial proximity to the king. The place accorded to a courtier by the ruler was a sign of his importance in the eyes of the emperor.
