Considering the tender age of Jo, both the endings seem a little irrational. In Roger Skunk's story  'Should Wizard Hit  Mommy' we can note that it provides two possible endings. In the first ending, Roger Skunk is made to smell like roses by the Wizard through his magical wand. He should retain the same smell as he needs the company of other animals to play with them. But his mother is deeply enraged at this  'awful smell' It is certain that Jo will be learning from whatever she hears and visualizes at this age. If the story ends according to Jack, Jo will never be able to question anything she considers wrong in life since this ending stresses that elders are always right in whatever they do. In addition, the story shows the Skunk’s Mommy hitting the wizard for no fault of his. The wizard does what he is asked to. This may scare the four-years-old Jo, as it teaches that mothers, being elders, have the right to hit anyone, even if they are not at fault.
On the contrary, if the story ends as Jo wanted it to, it will stop her from believing in and respecting her elders. She may even start believing that there is nothing wrong in hitting elders. A balanced view may be given in an apt ending where the mommy either does not hit the wizard at all or realizes her mistake soon.

The author has used the device of irony in order to highlight the satire on the conceit of those who are in power. The king is portrayed as an extremely conceited person from the very beginning of the lesson. A ten-day-old infant pronounces the words 'Let tigers beware!' and challenges to prove the prediction made by the State astrologer wrong. His killing of more than seventy tigers within a period of ten years ,bringing the entire species close to extinction and marrying  a royal princess, just for the sake of his convenience of killing more tigers in her father's kingdom, exercising his authority to punish or levy tax on people, flaunting his richness by sending about fifty expensive diamond rings to the British officer's wife and spending three lakh rupees on the jewelry,  show his conceit. He does nothing for the sake of the people in the capacity of a king.

With reference to the lesson, yes, we can say that the people in power to take advantage of their status and hence the people under their influence suffer. The less influential or the common people cannot raise their voice against the injustice meted out to them just like the king's minions.

Dr. Sadao's father wanted him to become a doctor and knew that the future existed overseas. Therefore, during their walks he told Sadao that the islands yonder were the stepping stones to the future. Sadao knew well that his education was his father's chief concern for which he had taken great pains. Consequently, Sadao was sent to America at the age of twenty two to gain all the knowledge that he could gain. Though it was a fact that Dr Sadao's father hated Americans, the sole motive behind his decision could be the lure of technologically advanced medical studies available in America. He may have wanted his son to get trained in the best environment and according to the latest medical development.

When Hana noticed the deep red scars on the American soldier's neck, she worriedly hoped that he had not been tortured by the Japanese. She knew it was a common practice for the Japanese to torture their prisoners of war in the most brutal manner. This also reminded her of General Takima, who used to beat his wife. The thought of General Takima, who was cruel to his wife, torturing the prisoner made her shudder with fear.
