Sadao’s expertise in his profession and compassion as a human being were his most dominant personality traits. As a dutiful doctor, he could not have let the prisoner die of his injuries and so he saved his life. At the same time, he acted like a responsible citizen and informed the General of the presence of the enemy. However, when the General’s men did not come to kill the American Sadao decided to save his life.

Dr Sadao gave his boat to the young soldier, arranged food for him and provided him valuable information which helped him escape successfully. This is how Sadao helped the American soldier flee and thereby saved his life.

“There is a sufficiency in the world for man’s need but not for man’s greed” – this statement from one of the greatest men in our country, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi clearly depicted the generation where mankind entered into a race for survival and in the process, destroyed, degenerated and dilapidated the environment around him. Now 63 years after the great Mahatma imparted his wisdom, the situation has become worse. The environment which took care of humans, provided them with their needs and protected and cultivated mankind was abused so much by them that it started avenging itself. Global warming, planetary disintegration, unpredictable climates, hurricanes tycoons, tsunamis and flash floods have taken innumerable human lives.

Scarcities of power sources, rarity of clean, breathable air, depleting resources and natural disasters have threatened the existence of mankind. It is at this time that the human race came to realize that in order to survive; it has to protect the environment around him. The first target in this process was of course the industrial sector. The emissions of toxic air, dumping of hazardous and non-biodegradable materials into the seas and piling up of industrial wastes were the major contributors to this environmental disaster. With the introduction of strict government policies and ISO standards and efforts from non government organizations, every industry is now in need of an environmental manager who will assess the environment friendliness of an industry and define ways to develop, implement and monitor environmental strategies, policies and programs that promote sustainable development.

What is the role of environmental manager? He is an individual who carries out a Ctrl+Z on all the environmental felonies which were carried out by the company in the past, reversing the effect to the farthest extent possible. Environmental managers examine corporate activities and establish where improvements can be made and ensure compliance with environmental legislation across the organization. A few of their roles involve developing and implementing environmental strategies, taking the lead on sustainable procurement for all goods and services and coordinating all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation and renewable energy.

This is not all! This superhero, Mr. Green, whose ultimate goal is to protect the balance of nature and revive mother earth, does not fly around in caped costumes knocking out felons, but he does some serious desk work by ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, auditing, analyzing and reporting environmental performance to regulatory bodies, indentifying, assessing and reducing an organization’s environmental risk and financial costs, managing the development and implementation of an environmental management system,

participating in environmental study and research and pretty much doing anything which will minimize the environmental liability of an organization.

With stringent norms laid down by the government these days, the need for an environmental manager is of utmost importance and there are a plenty of opportunities to be found both in India and abroad. But, the main thing to be remembered is that, as a principal user of mother nature, humanity is responsible for ensuring that its environmental impacts are benign rather than catastrophic. It is high time that we realized our environmental responsibilities ourselves and acted accordingly. Mankind should not get involved in a fight for survival with the mighty environment, which is far more fierce and powerful and can erase the smallest traces of humanity from this planet if it wants to!

                                                                                                  Technology

India has achieved good progress in the field of technology. For this we are greatly indebted to Nehru , the architect of modern India. He realized that the progress in technology will lead India to the path of prosperity and fulfill the needs of her teeming millions. Unlike Gandhiji he believed  that cottage and khadi industries would not be of any great help to India. As Chaiman of National Planning Committee which the Congress had sponsored as far back as 1938 Nehru said, ' If technology demands big machine as it does today in a large measure , then the big machine with all its implications and consequences must be accepted.'

Our achievement in the field of agriculture is commendable. We have achieved almost self sufficiency in food grains. The work done by the Indian council of Agricultural Research and other agricultural colleges and universities has helped greatly in stepping up production. The contribution made by Dr.M.S.Swaminathan , F.R.S. in this field deserves special mention. Our agricultural scientists are also indebted to Dr. Norman Borlaug famous agricultural scientist (Nobel Prize Winner For Peace , 1970) who developed new strains of wheat , rice etc. We have now new varieties of seeds, scientific tools ,pesticides , fertilizers etc.White Revolution also took place in this regard. Dr. Verghese Kurian is the person who brought this revolution. India has become the second largest producer of vegetables in the world.

We have also achieved good progress in the field of industry. Our scietific and industrial man-power is the third largest in the world. The plants at Bhilai and Bokaro produce large quantity of steel. Ships , aircraft , cars ,trucks, television sets mobiles , smartwatches, internet has brought revolution in the field of technology , gadgets which were beyond dreams a few years ago.Education has been revolutionized with technology. Now notebooks , pens, pencils and books have become things of the past and have been repalced with tablets, laptops, notebooks, smartclasses and mobile phones.

Facilities for health have increased. Many medicines required for serious diseases are available.Technology has decreased death rate and exempted the mankind from pain. Our doctors now operate on the heart and the brain.A few of them have now succeeded in producing test-tube babies.

India is now equipped with the largest and most sophisticated arms manufacturing by us in the third world. Our scientists have succeeded in making missiles. The navy has good frigates. Department of atommic energy renders a very good service to the nation.Research work is now carried out at the Bhabha Atomic Energy Research Centre (BARC).It houses four reasearch reactors.BARC produces more than 350 radio-active products. Some of them are exported. The nuclear power stations under The Nuclear Power Corporation Ltd. produce electricity. The Western world was taken aback when we exploded a nuclear device at Pokhran in Rajasthan.( May 18,1974)

We have achieved progress in space research. We launched the first satellite Aryabhatta in May 1975 followed by a second satellite Bhaskara-1 in 1979. A number of satellites since beeb sent by us.The launching of most of them was successful. All have various uses. Rakes Sharma was the first Indian cosmonaut. He stayed in spsce for a week. For this achievement we are greatly indebted to the former Soviet Union.

Our technologists are capable of doing remarkable things for the development of our country. But they do not get proper encouragement. A few of them have made away with themselves for want of good incentives.A number of them have also gone abroad for better prospects.

It has been remarked that 'Science in its place can make heaven of hell , hell of heaven'.No doubt technology has given us miraculous powers but if it is used for destructive purposes it can make our life miserable. So the judicious use of technology can give us unlimited adavantages.

Blood Is Thicker Than Water

Blood relationship is always found to be stronger and more valuable than mere friendship formed through acquaintance. Blood ties are lasting. They have a firmer bond of affection than all other relationships. Friends may be sincere and willing to help. But they have got their limits. They often stop when they find themselves to be in troubled waters. But blood relatives such as father, mother, brother or sister will stand by our side risking even their necks. They in fact are our true allies. There might be exceptions to this rule. But true and sincere friends are often hard to get. Even if they are true and sincere, we cannot expect the greatest sacrifice from them. They give more importance to their own kith and kin. So even if true and sincere friendship is to be given due credit, we should value blood ties more. The most unselfish service is often got from our kith and kin than from friendship formed through acquaintance. They last longer and are often found to be stronger than the latter.

'The Last Lesson' of Alphonse Daudet is set in the days of the Franco-Prussian war.France is defeated by PrussiaIn  In schools new teacher will replace the old to teach German.M.Hamel announces that 'this is the last lesson ' in French .Everyone is shocked that they have to learn a language that is quite foreign to them.Franz shows his dislike for German. It made him sentimental. He knew very little about French but suddenly he developed a strange fascination for his language. It suddenly filled him with a feeling of patriotism, his discrimination based simply on caste ,colour, creed and nationality which is considered barbarous to some extent as it not good to carry pride in one's language too far.No doubt it is good to feel proud of our own language culture and traditions but we must also respect other linguistic minorities. We must give due recognition and respect to the language and culture of minority groups and communities.

'Linguistic Chauvinism' is having an absurdly extravagant pride in one's language.Germany captured the two French districts of Alsace and Lorraine.German 'Linguistic Chauvinism' was reflected when it imposed German Laguage on the dominantly French population of Alsaice and Lorraine.

Undoubtedly it is very natural to have a sense of patriotism like M. Hamel and Franz in 'The Last Lesson'They love their country very much. When Germany takes over Alsace, he urges the people to give up their laziness and learn their language. He believes that when everthing gets destroyed,it is only language which will keep them together.but as stated above excess of everything is bad. When we have prejudices about a community or a caste sometimes it can have very serious consequences as hatred or anger lead to violence and it may bring bloodshed and loss of life and property which is very harmful for mankind.

Thus the chapter ends giving a message that this is true prejudices impede fraternity Though M. Hamel appeals to values of education, persistence, pride and strength. His views about importance of language to an 'Enslaved people' was that it was the most beautiful language in the world so theymust guard it among themselves and never for get it as when people are enslaved,as long as they hold fast to their language it is s if they have the key to their prison.Sometimes it brings reproach to ourselves if we dont pay proper time and love to our language but there must be a balance between our love for our language and our attitude towards humanity as any sort of discrimination on the basis of caste, colour and creed is not desirable.

Ans. The narrator remembers a story of a boy from Udipi. He was the son of a priest. He would pray for a pair of shoes to the goddess. Young boys like the son of the priest now wear shoes. But rag pickers of her neighbourhood like Saheb remain shoeless. The contrast is obvious. It shows two different pictures of the same society.

Ans. The Invisible man presented by H.G Wells is a science fiction, carries the illusion of scientific revolution. where, we see " How a man with persistent efforts is able to bring our the desirable results but the same could be a disaster as well, if taken in use for the humanity.

Griffin as an eccentric scientist is the one who, with his keen interest in the subject makes it possible to bring the human body invisible which he later applied on himself in the desire of power. his lust for his dream, made him pursue what he did not even think of doing in his entire life. when things went our of his hand. he took an evil path to fulfil what he desires. he became a threat for the society. Because of the criticism received by others on his extra ordinary efforts. He was so much raged that he decided to take t he revenge from all those who were a part of it.

But still we should not forget that nothing is much powerful than the wish of almighty. he desired for the terror among the other for him but he met a fatal end. the curtain of his life fell. An extra ordinary genius died because of his greed of coming in power and becoming a terror
