Since it was asked by Rizwana Mam so here is the answer M. Hamel rebukes his class for putting off 'learning till tomorrow'. Now the Prussians will be able to mock at the Frenchmen and say, "How is it; you pretend to be Frenchmen, and yet you can neither speak nor write your own language?" It was no longer a matter of learning a language but of national pride and nationalism. This procrastination in learning one's own mother tongue can be overcome by making it compulsory in school and also by including literature which would make it more interesting to the students.
