Mr. Hall, the co-owner of the 'Coach and Horses' inn, is a man with 'heavy intelligence'. He is slow, lazy and dull. He leaves the management of the inn to his wife. He does render some support to her. He is gullible and easily believes what Teddy tells hum about the stranger. Thus he begins to suspect the stranger. Thereafter he aggressively enters the parlour and looks very hard at his wife's furniture. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hall are normal in contrast to the abnormal stranger. He is a good-natured fellow and is happy with the management of the inn by his wife. He is sociable and enjoys the company of the villagers. He likes to assist his wife in odd jobs. He helps in carrying the stranger's luggage to his room. He co-operates with his wife and joins her to work in the wine-cellar.

Dr. Kemp, the scientist, is a heroic figure in the novel. He is intelligent, smart, alert and quick in his action. After Griffin escapes from Kemp's trap, he quickly explains to Adye how they can capture him. He suggests that they should use dogs to sniff him out and spread powered glass in the streets. Kemp is an ambitious scientist a he works hard to be a part of the Royal Society, the famous scientific organisation. Kemp, a tall and slender youngman, is financially well-off. He is committed to the well-being of the people. When Griffin wants him to be a part of his plan to establish a reign of terror, he refuses to do so. When Griffin is present in his house, he sends a note to Adye, the policechief, to come and nab him. He is a disciplined and law-abiding citizen. He is rational in his approach towards a dangerous situation. He opposes Griffin's philosophy of killing people.

M. Hamel, the French tracher, emerges as an epitome of an ideal teacher in the story "The Last Lesson". He is introduced by the narrator as a ruler-wielding stereotyped teacher, who is strict and domineering. He is very particular that his students learnt their lessons. At this point the reader feels that, like all teachers, he is insensitive to the feelings of his students and takes pride in his affirmative and empathetic tone. M. Hamel, however, emerges as a true facilitator, a guide and a philosopher for his pupils when he teaches his last lesson. His concern about the education of his students becomes more prominent. Like a friend and guide, he advises the innocent villagers to shift their priorities and pay more attention to learning at school. As a patient teacher he makes Franz realise why he insisted on learning in time and not postponing the learning. He is also seen as a true patriot for he loves his country and the language native to it. He calls upon them to shake off their procrastination and safeguard their language as it was the key to their prison. We see him as a man of deep emotions when he proudly writes 'Vive La France' on the blackboard in the end. M. Hamel is, thus, an ideal teacher, true guide, philosopher and patriot to the core.

The stranger remained locked in the parlour all morning. He sent for Mrs. Hall and asked her why his meals had not been sent to him. She told him that his bills had not been paid. He gave her some money, but she refused to accept it, saying that she first wanted to know why he didn't enter by doorways and move about like normal people. For his answer, the stranger removed all his head wrappings, including his nose and moustache. He thus looked like a person with a missing head. At the sound of screams a crowd of people ran towards the inn. 'Eye-witnesses' suddenly babble hysterical stories of the man attacking the servant girl, and brandishing a knife. Bobby Jaffers, the village constable, appeared with a warrant. The stranger slapped Jaffers with his glove but then said he would surrender. As they watched, the stranger removed the rest of his clothes, becoming invisible before them. He told them that he was invisible.

Water-logging: The Prime Factors in Causing Dengue and Malaria Good morning my dear students; today I am going to talk to you about malaria and dengue as these fatal disease strike people during the months of September and October the most. Thousands of people are infected every year with these diseases and the fatality rate is quite high. So I am going to talk about prevention measures to stay safe from these two monsters. Both the diseases are caused by several species of mosquitoes. Though effective medication is available, but it is quite expensive. Wise men have always said: “Prevention is better than cure.’ Dengue and malaria can be kept by not letting any water logging. Since every year after the torrential rains during the monsoons, lots of water gets logged. The aedes and aegypti types of the mosquitoes proliferate in logged water. Make sure there is no old water in coolers, or any other containers in or around your homes. Secondly, keep your body as much covered as is possible by wearing full sleeve shirts and shoes. I hope you will take the said preventions and stay healthy. That’s all for today.
