The bed-clothes gathered themselves together, leapt up suddenly into a sort of peak, and then jumped headlong over the bottom rail. It was exactly as if a hand had clutched them in the centre and flung them aside. Immediately after, the stranger's hat hopped off the bed-post, described a whirling flight in the air through the better part of a circle, and then dashed straight at Mrs. Hall's face. Then as swiftly came the sponge from the washstand; and then the chair, flinging the stranger's coat and trousers carelessly aside, and laughing drily in a voice singularly like the stranger's, turned itself up with its four legs at Mrs. Hall, seemed to take aim at her for a moment, and charged at her. She screamed and turned, and then the chair legs came gently but firmly against her back and impelled her and Hall out of the room. The door slammed violently and was locked. The chair and bed seemed to be executing a dance of triumph for a moment, and then abruptly everything was still. Mrs. Hall was left almost in a fainting condition in Mr. Hall's arms on the landing. It was with the greatest difficulty that Mr. Hall and Millie, who had been roused by her scream of alarm, succeeded in getting her downstairs, and applying the restoratives customary in such cases.

Mrs. Hall

Mrs. Hall is quite an important character in the beginning of the novel. She is the owner of the inn, Coach and Horses. She is an astute
business woman, dominating wife, and practical woman. She does her job quite
well. She does not mind Griffin’s strange and eccentric appearance and behavior
for the business’s sake. However, she is quite quick in observing the
abnormality of Griffin’s behavoiur.

She is quite meticulous with the keeping of her inn. She provides
satisfactory services to her customers. When Griffin spoils the fender, walls,
and the floor in the room, she points it to him. She is a woman of ethics and
right behavior. She does not like Griffin’s mysterious disappearance from the
room one morning. She does not like the abnormal behavior of the furniture in
Griffin’s room.

When she becomes suspicious of his connection with the burglary at the Vicarage, she becomes quite strict with Griffin. She insists on him to clear all his pending bills. She stops serving him his meals and other services; when Griffin gives some money to pacify her, she wants to know from him where he got the money from. She also asks him to explain why the furniture in his room behaved abnormally. This infuriates Griffin, and he reveals his invisibility to her by putting his nose on her hand. She gets scared and urns away screaming.

1.Mr Thomas Marvel was a short, fat man. He gave an impression of a tramp - the shabby hat, the charity boots, his clothes and his homeless lifestyle. Being a lazy guy, he did everything in a leisurely manner.

2.Griffin made him his sidekick even though he himself considered him stupid and good for nothing. He was a coward little man and was unable to standup to Griffin. He became his partner in crime, but cheated him.

3.He was also an opportunist. The first chance that he got, he tried to sneak away from Griffin, but failed. The second time he manage to run away with all his money and his three books.

4.He was very clear in the sense that he himself got arrested as he knew Griffin was after him. Moreover, he kept the three books for himself in hope of solving their mystery - an act of foolishness.
