Sadao Hoki was both an expert surgeon in the art of healing wounds and a scientist as well. At the age of 22 , his father sent him to America to study surgery and medicine. There he fell in love with Hana but married after returning from Japan when his father was convinced that the girl was a pure Japanese. He was very generous and loyal to his country. His wife Hana was also a sympathetic, kind, obedient and faithful wife. While standing on the veranda of their house, they saw something crawling on the beach. They approached there and found that he was a wounded and an escaped prisoner of war. At one time they thought to throw him back in the sea. On the other hand, they thought that the fellow would die if handed over to the police. As a doctor he was trained to save a life if he could do.
There flowed the milk of human kindness in both of them. They brought him home but the servants were badly against them. Sadao performed the operation and his wife Hana stood by him through every thick and thin. There was a great risk of Dr. Sadao being arrested for harbouring a prisoner of war. Being a patriot, he declared everything to the General and was ready to face the consequences. This shows that both Dr. Sadao and his wife, Hana were sympathetic, loyal, patriot, compassionate and honest people.

Bholi’s real name was Sulekha but she was called Bholi, the simpleton as she was a backward child. She was the fourth daughter of Numberdar Ramlal who had seven children. Bholi remained a backward child due to an injury in her head when she was ten months old. She was fair and pretty at birth but when she was two years old, she had an attack of small-pox which left deep black marks all over her body. She started speaking only when she turned five but she stammered when she spoke and as a result, she was always mimicked or made fun of by the other children. Therefore, Bholi talked very little. Unlike Ramlal’s other children, she was not healthy and strong. She was frightened at first when her father wanted to take her to school. After years of gaining an education and with the help of her teacher, Bholi turned into a confident girl.

Rising Prices: An Ordeal for Common Man
Nalini
A rise in prices, economists say, is a sign of development and prosperity. However, during the last two decades, prices of almost all the essential commodities have been increasing at an alarming rate. These soaring prices have caused great unrest and frustration among the people. The people belonging to the middle class and the salaried people are hit hard.
The prices of petrol, cooking gas, kerosene oil, and several other items of daily use are increasing every year. Not only that, railway fares, airfares, and bus and taxi charges are also increasing regularly. There are many causes of the unprecedented rise in prices. Inflation, black marketing, hoarding, faulty credit system, overpopulation and improper system of distribution are some of the major causes of hike in prices.
There should be an equitable distribution through fair price shops. Shopkeepers should be directed to display the stock of essential commodities along with their prices. Those people who buy things in the black market should be punished. Production of food should be increased. Sincere efforts should be made to stabilize the prices of essential commodities. Let us hope that the government will be able to bring down soaring prices. What is needed is the right intention and the force of will.

People migrate from villages to cities in search of livelihood. Their fields fail to provide them means of survival. Cities provide employment, jobs or other means of getting food. The problem in case of the poor is to feed the hungry members.
