The Tiger King had to bribe the British officer’s wife in order to save his kingdom. The British officer wanted to hunt a tiger in the King’s kingdom. But the Maharaja was firm in his resolve. He refused permission.

The British officer’s secretary sent word to the Maharaja through the Diwan that the durai (the British officer) himself did not have to kill the tiger. The Maharaja could do the actual killing. What was important to the durai was a photograph of him holding the gun and standing over the tiger’s carcass. But the Maharaja would not agree even to this proposal. If he relented now, what would he do if other British officers turned up for tiger hunts? Because he prevented a British officer from fulfilling his desire, the Maharaja stood in danger of losing his kingdom itself.

The Tiger king then sought his wise Diwan’s advice. He suggested that the British officer’s wife could save them from losing their kingdom. So, they sent fifty diamond rings as bribe to The ‘duraisani’ (The British Officer’s wife) expecting her to keep one or two out of them and send the rest back. However, the ‘duraisani’ turned out to be very greedy; she kept all the fifty rings and sent a ‘thank you’ letter to the king.

Geoff spread the news about Sophie meeting Danny Casey which spurred her to continue with this willfully self-constructed charade. He told Frank about the meeting which reached Jansie's ears and then began the inquisition upon Sophie regarding the meeting. Sophie had spoken to Geoff on strictest confidence but he did not keep the secret. By helping spread the news, he succeeded in fueling Sophie's fantasy about Danny Casey making him into an unattainable goal that she had to reach.

The 'grandeur' is associated with the 'mighty dead' because the splendour of the deeds inspires us through their sagas. The legends and stories of martyrs enthuse us. Through their legends, the mighty dead continue to live and to be active as spiritual powers. These give us pleasure and divine influence like an eternal fountain that is bestowed to us from heaven.

Eco began writing narratives at the late age of about fifty. This satisfied his love for narration. He had become even more renowned after the publication of The Name of the Rose, although he had written five novels against over 40 scholarly works of non-fiction. He said that The Name of the Rose was a serious novel. It was a detective story at one level but it also dug into metaphysics, theology, and medieval history. Yet, it was enjoyed by a large audience. Umberto Eco wasn't surprised but the journalists and some publishers were because they believed that people did not enjoy difficult reading experiences. Eco felt that there was a percentage of readers who did not want easy experiences. Even if they did enjoy reading trash, it was not all the time. Many books had been written about the medieval past but the reason for the success of his book was unknown. He felt that perhaps if he had written The Name of the Rose ten years earlier or ten years later, it wouldn't have been the same success.

Here the poet referred the city folk as the polished traffic since they were affluent and move in decent and costly cars. They drove with their eyes fixed forward. If ever anyone looked aside, he felt initiated. He felt troubled on seeing the artless paint done on the building to spoil the mountain landscape. The poet called them mean because they kept the money in their pockets.

Franz was a boy who lived in the district of Alsace. He studied in one of the schools in Alsace. He was not fond of attending school and studying. He liked the out world more than the environment of the school. Learning French was something he never gave much importance to. He was scared of his French teacher M. Hamel. The time when the people of Alsace came to know that as per the new law, German would be taught in the school in the place of French, he experienced a different feeling for French altogether. Apart from being surprised, he felt sorry for himself for not paying attention while studying French. He was very disappointed and sorry to attend the last lesson of French in his school.
