Such questions need to be attempted on your own to test your creative writing skills. However, these points might help you elaborate:

- In their honour, a special assembly was organised by the Cultural Club of the school.
- Many different items were presented by the students: folk songs and dances from different regions of India, skits based on life in the rural and urban areas of India and a mime on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
- The delegates were impressed to see such talented students and such remarkably good presentations.
- They felt excited when the teachers of the school sang a song in Dzongkha, the official language of Bhutan!

Franz was a student in one of the schools in the districts of Alsace. Having a poor family set up, the boy was often asked to work in some mill for earning some money. But the family could not pay due attention towards his education, so the boy loved outside environment and wanted to enjoy it. In the school too, he often loved to work in the garden. He became fond of shirking from work and used to put off his learning as well as home task. But he was much scared of his teacher M. Hamel.
In addition to this, the boy had an acute sense of understanding, feeling, recognition and respect. Entering the school, he sensed unusualness and calmness there. He was much surprised at this and was rather troubled to know that his teacher was leaving them because of an order from Berlin had banned the teaching of French. During the writing period, he noticed sad expressions over the face of M. Hamel. When the teacher taught a lesson in grammar, it left an indelible impression on the boy. He felt that the teacher was going to pour everything in their minds. Then the teacher wrote on the blackboard ‘Long Live France’. The boy was deeply moved and he recognised his teacher for his worth. Thus Franz had all the senses of head and heart.

M. Hamel was a true French man. Teaching at Alsace for forty years, he had become a part of its people. He was an honest teacher. He did not blame his students alone for poor learning. He also held himself responsible for the same. He was very patriotic as he appealed to his countrymen to hold fast to their mother tongue to be free from the Prussians. According to him the French language was the most beautiful, the clearest and the most logical language in the world. He urged on his countrymen to guard it and never forget it. He was deeply attached to the school and all his students. However, he was very brave and strong. He was really regretful for not making sincere efforts to teach French to his countrymen. At the end, he became so emotional that he could not speak.

Dr. Sadao was a benevolent doctor. He cured a soldier who was from the enemy team. Although initially when he met the American soldier, Dr. Sadao was in a state of dilemma. He couldn’t understand whether he should tend the dying American soldier or hand him over to the Japanese army, as a patriot. Dr. Sadao had a conflict between the duty of a doctor and the duty of true patriot. He was kind hearted doctor and so his righteousness wins over him. He risked his own life and gave Tom, the American soldier, shelter in his house.

Franz entered the school. He noticed many unusual things in the school. It was all so still, calm and quiet like Sunday morning. The whole school looked strange and solemn. There was no hustle and bustle. The rapping of the teacher’s ruler on the table was not heard. The voice of the students repeating the lessons and the opening and closing of the desks was not heard. It was quite unusual and surprising.

The theme of 'The Last Lesson' revolves around the question of linguistic and cultural dominion of the colonial powers and their hunger for controlling the world. The story highlights the efforts of the victors to crush the vanquished in every possible manner. Through it we come face to face with the question of immorality of imposing imperial languages and cultures on the colonies. The child, Franz questions the fact that when birds and animals cannot be forced to abandon their language for some other, then how prudent is it for man to force other human beings to speak some other tongue abandoning their own. Language is not just a medium of communication for its people but is also an identity for them, and taking it away from them becomes the harshest punishment for them. 'The Last Lesson' also has a sub-theme of the kind of attitudes that students and teachers have towards learning and teaching. It throws light on how proper equation between students and their teacher, the teacher’s focused attention, helpful and encouraging attitude and kind treatment can encourage students to learn better.

The psychiatrist of Charley called him having a waking-dream-wish-fulfilment. Since the Third Level was all his fantasy, his wife Louisa too asked him not to look for the Third Level anymore. The narrator took to stamp collecting. One day while looking through his worthy collection, Charley noticed a “first day cover” which he believed not to have seen before. This cover was addressed to his grandfather and mailed to him at his home in Galesburg. It was on July 18, 1894. Definitely his grandfather must have put it in his collection and the same must be lying there since long. Since it was a “first day cover”, consequently, it was not opened.
There was a blank paper in it. By chance Charley opened it. On opening it was found that it had a letter from Sam. He had reached Galesburg and was living very happily. He had found the place very charming, peaceful and serene. It was also written in the letter that Charley should come to Galesburg and look for the Third Level. In other words, the letter appeared to be Charley's imagination like his escape into the Third Level. The psychiatrist too had warned him that his stamp collection was a mode of escaping into the past.

The map on the wall shows beautiful rivers, mountains and valleys whereas the world of the slum children only consists of dim lanes covered with a lead sky. The beautiful world of the map is unknown to them. So the map just tempts them without giving them an opportunity to live in the real world.

Character of Franz
Franz was a very young boy living in Alsace district of France. He had a layman's attitude to studies. At the beginning we find him feeling tempted to skive his school. However, we also come to know his inner strength of character when he overcomes that temptation.
We come to know his patriotism and love for his teacher after he comes to know about the sad news of the new order according to which teaching of French had to be replaced with German. He is shocked to know that that was M. Hamel's last lesson.
We see him getting remorseful for having ignored learning French. He wants to learn all the French in just one period. He is very sad at the departure of his teacher.

The theme of love for one's own language comes from the situation when the people of Alsace and Lorraine were denied of their right to freedom and to learn their own language by the Prussians. These are the main themes that he wants to bring out.

Throughout his life, the peddler had never known respect. He was always treated coldly by the world. For the first time in his life, he was honoured and respected as if he were a captain. Even after the truth was exposed, the daughter continued to treat him in a similar way. The way he was treated encouraged him to behave in a like manner. He signed the letter as Captain von Stahle so as to underline the impact of Edla's goodness on him.
