It is effect seen in f-block lanthanoid compounds due to which despite having large atomic number and more number of shells there size is comparatively quite small . This happens due to poor shielding effect of d and f subshell. Exteriors electrons are pulled strongly toward nucleus thus huge reduction in size occour.
