Base reacts with HCN to form CN− ion. B+HCN→BH++CN− CN− ion acts as nucleophile and attacks carbonyl carbon CN−+R−O∣∣C−R′→R−O−∣C(−R′)−CN The anion thus formed accepts a proton from water to form cyanohydrin. H2O+R−O−∣C(−R′)−CN→R−OH∣C(−R′)−CN+OH

π1=4.98,π2=1.52, C1=36/180,C2=? Now, according to Van't Hoff equation. Π=CRT. putting the value in above equation, we get. 4.98=36/180RT.................(i) 1.52=C2RT.................(ii) Now dividing equation 2 by 1,we get. (C2*180)/36=1.52/4.98 or C2=0.0061
