Chemical reactions involve the breaking and making of chemical bonds. Energy is required to break a bond and energy is released when a bond is formed. This energy change accompanying the formation or the breaking of a bond between two atoms in gaseous state is known as bond enthalpy.
Fluorine has lower bond enthalpy than chlorine. This happens because of the size of fluorine is small and F-F bond length is short.Due to this the electrons lie very close to each other and very large electron electron repulsions take place which weakens the bond.
Hence the bond enthalpy of fluorine becomes less than chlorine while nothing so happens in the case of chlorine.
| Property | H-F | H-Cl |
| Bond length (pm) | 91.7 | 127.4 |
| Bond enthalpy(kJ/mol) | 574 | 432 |

The non-stoichiometry reflect the ease of oxidation of Fe2+ to Fe3+ effectively replacing a small portion of Fe2+ with two
thirds their number of Fe3+. Thus for every three "missing" Fe2+ ions, the crystal contains two Fe3+ ions to balance the
charge. i.e. 3Fe2+ = 2Fe3+ to maintain electrical neutrality.

Because in phenol, conjugation of unshared electron pair over oxygen with aromatic ring results in partial double bond character in carbon oxygen bond. In phenol, oxygen is attached to sp2 hybridised carbon atom while in methanol it is attached to sp3 hybridised carbon atom. The bond formed between oxygen and sp2 hybridised carbon is more stable i.e., shorter than that formed between oxygen and sp3 hybridised carbon

Ferric chloride is a stronger coagulant when compared to potassium chloride. This is because the valency of iron in ferric chloride is 3+, whereas that of potassium in KCl is 1+. The higher the valency, the better is the coagulation efficiency of the compound. Also, ferric chloride is more compatible with skin than KCl. Thus, FeCl3 does not cause any irritation when applied over wound.
