In the laboratory, sulphur dioxide is prepared by the reaction of metallic sulphite or a metallic bisulphite with a dilute acid. For example, a reaction between the dilute sulphuric acid and sodium sulphite will result in the formation of SO2.
Na2SO3 + H2SO4 → Na2SO4 + H2O + SO2
Commercially it is obtained as a by-product released from the roasting of sulphide ores. The gas obtained is dried, liquefied and then stored in steel cylinders.
4FeS2 (s) + 11 O2 (g) →2Fe2O3 (s) + 8SO2 (g)

Zinc is more reactive than copper. Therefore, zinc can displace copper from its salt solution. If copper sulphate solution is stored in a zinc pot, then zinc will displace copper from the copper sulphate solution.
Zn + CuSO4 → ZnSO4 + Cu
Hence, copper sulphate solution cannot be stored in a zinc pot.

- This principle was in favor of the wave nature of matter
- It stated that it is impossible to simultaneously evaluate the precise position and momentum of particle. There is always some probability in predicting the position and momentum of a particle. Mathematically, it can be written as:
(Δx)(Δp) ≥ h/(2π)
Considering the above equation, 2 cases are possible:
- Case-1- If precise momentum(p) of an electron is known, then its wavelength by De Broglie’s hypothesis will be constant:
λ = h/pIt means that the wavelength has a fixed value and the wave is extended infinitely throughout the wave. Hence, it is impossible to find the position of the wave.
Mathematically, if p = fixed , Then, Δp→0, Δx→∞
Case-2- If the wave is localized, having finite end points
As we can see in the diagram, the wavelength (λ) is not fixed, so the momentum (p) is also not fixed.
Hence, there is uncertainty in both, momentum (p) and position (x).
