  • Freezing point of a substance is the temperature at which the vapour pressure
of the substance in its liquid phase is equal to the vapour pressure in the solid phase.
  • If the vapour pressure of the solution is equal to the vapour pressure of the pure solid solvent then the solution freezes.
  • According to Raoult’s law, addition of non-volatile solute decreases the vapour pressure of the solvent and would be equal to that of solid solvent at lower This decreases the freezing point of thesolvent.
  • The decrease in the freezing point = ΔTf = Tf – Tf0. This is known as depression in freezing point.

Tf0 = freezing point of pure solvent

Tf0 = freezing point when non-volatile solute is dissolved

Basically NH₃ is a base due to the lone pair of electrons present on the Nitrogen atom which is available for donation. On the other hand PH₃ is also a base but its basic character is less than that of NH₃ because the nitrogen in phosphorous have lone pair of electrons that are not readily available for donation.

Also the P-H bonds are weaker than N-H bonds, so there’s not as much compensation for protonating PH₃. This is a result of the inert pair effect, seen in heavier elements.

You have to learn all the reactions with reagents, reactants and respective products... Then u have to do conversions by first drawing the structure of the given reactant and product. U have to analyse what is the change that actually took place in the reactant... Then think of the reagents which matches with it... U can initially use ur books and slowly u will satrt analysing everything yourself and find the change.. This is how I started liking interconvertions... Initially I too had same problem... Try it out... ALL THE BEST! !
