Spiegeleisen: It is an alloy of Manganese (20 - 30%) and carbon (5%) and Iron (remaining percentage).
Roles of spiegeleisen
1) It acts as a scavenger (cleaning agent).
2) It acts as a deoxidizer and removes oxidized iron if present.
3) It is added to the molten iron to maintain the required amount of carbon in steel.

Bessemer process, the first method discovered for mass-producing steel. Though named after Sir Henry Bessemer of England, the process evolved from the contributions of many investigators before it could be used on a broad commercial basis. It was apparently conceived independently and almost concurrently by Bessemer and by William Kelly of the United States. As early as 1847, Kelly, a businessman-scientist of Pittsburgh, began experiments aimed at developing a revolutionary means of removing impurities from pig iron by an air blast. Kelly theorized that not only would the air, injected into the molten iron, supply oxygen to react with the impurities, converting them into oxides separable as slag, but that the heat evolved in these reactions would increase the temperature of the mass, keeping it from solidifying during the operation. After several failures, he succeeded in proving his theory and rapidly producing steel ingots.

Structures of Xenon fluorides cannot be explained by Valence Bond approach. According to the valence bond approach, covalent bonds are formed by the overlapping of the half-filled atomic orbital. But xenon has a fully filled electronic configuration. Hence the structure of xenon fluorides cannot be explained by VBT

Hg2Cl2 is known as calomel. It is prepared by heating HgCl2 and Hg in an iron vessel. It can also be prepared by mixing mercury salt with chloride ions.
Properties
1) It is a white powder which is insoluble in water.
2) Hg2Cl2 on heating dissociates into HgCl2 and Hg. action of calomel on heat 2"> Corrosive sublimate HgCl2 is a corrosive sublimate, which is prepared by passing chlorine over heated mercury or mercury chloride.
It can also be prepared by heating mercury sulphate with NaCl. action of mercury sulphate with NaCl
Properties
1) It is a crystalline solid.
2) It is soluble in hot water, ethanol and ether.
3) HgCl2 reacts with KI and forms a colorless solution known as Nessler`s reagent. nessler s reaction
