A point mutation or substitution is a genetic mutation where a single nucleotide base is changed, inserted or deleted from a sequence of DNA or RNA. Point mutations have a variety of effects on the downstream protein product—consequences that are moderately predictable based upon the specifics of the mutation.

Molecular basis of inheritance is a little bit difficult chapter......... this chapter basically speaks of DNA ......RNA ........., DNA comprises of ribose sugar........ nitrogenous base....... and phosphate group .................the chargaff rule is really very important ........because numericals come from this rule OK.......... then comes the central dogma replication leads to formation of DNA......... DNA transcription lead to the formation of MrNA......... and then proteins are formed by translation .......Packaging of DNA in prokaryotes is very simple .....dna is a negatively charged molecules what is packed by positively charged non histone proteins............ in eukaryotes formation of nucleosome takes place .........difference between euchromatin and hetero chromatin is really very important .........the main question is ..............which one is transcription active and which one is not ..............so euchromatin is transcriptionally active............ then come some of the principles and experiments .......... DNA replication which is very simple depends on some enzymes DNA polymerase for polymerisation dna helicase to unwind DNA strand......... DNA ligase joins the okazaki fragments ......transcription which is important .......there only three parts involved promoter....... inhibitor ........structural gene the processes of three steps ........initiation......... elongation......... termination ...........genetic code really very important especially stop codons that is which do not code for amino acids ........then come RNA the adaptor molecule structure .........then translation......... translation three steps initiation ..........elongation ..........termination then comes Lac Operon really very important...............
