We have,
(x, -1) {tex}\in{/tex} {(a, b) : b = 2a - 3}
and, (5, y) {tex}\in{/tex} {(a, b) : b = 2a - 3}
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} -1 = 2 {tex}\times{/tex} x - 3 and y = 2 {tex}\times{/tex} 5 - 3
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} -1 = 2x - 3 and y = 10 - 3
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} 3 - 1 = 2x and y = 7
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} 2 = 2x and y = 7
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} x = 1 and y = 7
