A division of labor means that various people had various occupations. Of course, with a division of labor, there was a social hierarchy. Kings were at the top of the social hierarchy in Mesopotamia, obviously because they ruled certain areas.
Below them were priests. Religion was huge in ancient Mesopotamia, so it made sense for the priests to be in an upper class.
Then there were merchants who traded items to make their living. Bartering is always an important part of society, so the middle class consisted of mostly them. After that, there were farmers and laborers.
They are basically the lower end of merchants, because they too, offer their products, but benefit less from it. And at the bottom were slaves.

The feudal system was a pyramidal or a hierarchical system which flourished during medieval period in Europe. Its four main features were:
- The king was at the topmost level of the feudal system. Below him were nobles known as barons followed by knights.
- The serfs or the peasants occupied the lowest strata in the feudal system.
- The Castle was the chief characteristic of feudalism. The feudal Lords lived in huge castles or forts. The living house and court of the Lord existed inside the castle.
- The king gave lands to barons and the latter provided troops to the King.

(i) The British got raw materials for the textile industries in India in form of cotton bales and began to export it for weaving clothes. It shifted the processing from homes to factories.
(ii) Initially, spinning consumes a lot of time, but with the invention of technical knowledge, the production began to increases. It increased the demand for raw material.
(iii) The political motives of imperialism. It further extended in the form of imperialism. It also led to the economic exploitation.
(iv) It boosted the Britishers industrial methods to gain more and more raw material forms colonial countries.
