The 14th century brought in a hard period for Europe. • The warm and pleasant summers had ended and bitterly cold winters had crept in. This posed difficulties in agriculture. •Europeans had done a large scale deforestation in order to to bring the land into agricultural use. The cattle died in large numbers due to scarcity of vegetation. •The silver mines of Austria and Serbia were on their last legs. They could not produce much silver then and was just about to exhaust. the government was that forced to mix cheap metals in coins which deteriorated the value of their currency. This adversely affected the trade. • when trade was carried on in Europe, it was done through sea routes. Alongwith the ships which carried goods, rats affected by the deadly infection of bubonic plague also got in them and were carried to European ports. These rats spread the infection and it lead to large scale death of the people. The population of Europe fell drastically. The infection was more rampant in monasteries, which were closed. If one among them got the infection, it could easily spread and affect the others. Thus, Europe was hardly hit by the 14th century crisis.
