The boat was almost turning over. The masts or poles lay flat. The narrator grabbed the rails. He was tossed around the deck like a rag doll. His chest bones cracked, his teeth were broken and his mouth was filled with blood. But he hung on to the wheel.
There was water all over. It had flown below but there was no way to examine the exact position. Suddenly, the lid over the opening on the deck was thrown open. Mary screamed that the lower part of the ship was full of water. She was told to take the wheel. The narrator went down to check on the other members. The two crewmen Larry and Herb were madly trying to pump out the water. The sideboard of the ship had bulged inwards. Clothes, charts and crockery were floating like toys. He moved towards the children’s cabin and found them safe on the upper berth. But Sue had a bump on her head.
The narrator found a hammer, screws and canvas. He made some repairs to stop the water from entering. He spread the canvas across the open holes. Some water now flowed towards the sides instead of below.
More problems arose when the handpumps were blocked up with debris. The electric pump went out of order. The water level rose dangerously. Back on deck, the narrator found the two spare handpumps also thrown overboard. Then, he thought of another electric pump in the chat room. He connected it to an out-pipe and it worked.
The night was bitterly cold. They sent out distress radio signals asking for help. The little girl’s head was swollen and she got black eyes due to her injury. She also had a deep cut on her arm. But she didn’t complain because she didn’t want to cause worry to her father.

Optimism is a determination to overcome difficulties. It raises one‟s spirits and helps one overcome stress and difficulty with ease. The story displays courage and optimism shown by everyone at the time of difficult situation. Survival happens only because of the optimistic struggle that the family carries on with the inclination to look at the bright side in the situation.
The level of perseverance in the author rises when Jonathan says, “We‟re not afraid of dying if we can all be together. Besides, the caricatures of him and Mary, drawn by Sue, helps his determination and optimism to grow many folds. The positive outlook of the children infuses positivity in the narrator. He rigorously calculates their position and finally asks Larry to steer a course of 185 degrees. Though he lost all hopes by then, he does not show it and optimistically told Larry that they would spot the island by about 5 p.m. Fortunately, their struggle and optimism pays off and they manage to find Ile Amsterdam by the evening.

The Egyptian Mummy Project, which began an inventory in late 2003, was engaged in the task of recording mummies so it had recorded almost 600 so far and was still counting. The next phase of the project was scanning the mummies with a portable CT machine donated by the National Geographic Society and Siemens, its manufacturer. King Tut was one of the first mummies to be scanned, in death, as in life, moving regally ahead of his countrymen.b

Mrs Dorling was a greedy woman who did not return the belongings to the narrator. She herself had offered to take Mrs S's things to her home to take care of them as long as they would be away. Mrs S had entrusted the task of taking care of her things before leaving to save their life from Nazi soldiers. After the war when the narrator returned, and went to her house to take her mother's things back, she did not welcome her with a smile. She kept her standing at the door, and asked her to come some other day. Her selfish, inconsiderate and avaricious behavior hurt the already hurt narrator. Her intentions of misappropriating the author's mother's goods were quite clear.
Mrs S was a great Jew woman who became victim of war. She had been living peacefully in Holland with her daughter, the author when they had to leave in hurry to save their life. Mrs S was a perfect homemaker. She had an admirable collection of household things such as crockery, cutlery, and upholstery. She took meticulous care of them, and often cleaned them. Mrs S had given her precious and expensive household things to Mrs Dorling with the intention of taking them back after the war was over. The unfortunate Mrs S didn't live long enough to go back to Holland, and claim her things back from Mrs Dorling.

Margo Minco has very aptly and logically titled this short story ‘The Address’. The narrator and her mother were victims of the war. The upheaval forced them to be wanderers. They had no permanent address worth the name. All the ‘nice things’ were at No. 46, Marconi Street. They aroused nostalgic feelings of former times. But their true owner was no more in the world. The narrator resolved to forget them and also the address where they lay.
