Statement of Purpose – Sociology

In the modern world, in which cultures and countries are increasingly interconnected, it is essential to have a firm understanding of various world cultures. With this in mind, I am eager to undertake advanced studies of sociology overseas, learning more about this subject while also experiencing daily life in a new environment. I have always been driven to explore the world and learn more about how societies function on a macro-scale, and I was thus very excited when I found the MA in Sociology program at XXX University. I am encouraged by the curriculum, professors, and resources available in your institution, and I am inspired to devote myself to advanced studies of Sociology. Having done some research into the content of this program, I strongly believe that it will allow me to strengthen my analytical skills, whilst inspiring me and giving me the opportunity to develop my ideas.

As an undergraduate in Goodwell University, majoring in Foreign Languages and Literature, I learned a great deal, both academically and in daily life. In this major, I acquired much useful professional knowledge and confirmed my strong interests in different societies and cultures by taking the required courses, including courses focusing on American literature, European literature, and the literature of different Asian countries. In addition to the required courses, I also took elective courses related to sociology, gender issues, communication and negotiation, and various language courses. Our instructors often shared with us their own practical foreign experiences which influenced me considerably and reinforced my determination to pursue studies abroad. I am drawn to the UK by its rich culture, beautiful landscapes and unique historical legacy. Although my university studies are not directly to my proposed major, I am confident that my passion and diligence will enable me to take full advantage of the education you offer and successfully complete my studies.

With regard to my future plans, I hope to take advantage of my time studying in your MA in Sociology program to strengthen my background in the field, and I especially hope to focus on the area of Women’s Studies. After completion of the MA in Sociology program, I hope to enter the Ph.D. program to conduct further research. As for my long-term goals, after completing my postgraduate education I hope to return to my native country and apply my skills and expertise to make beneficial contributions to the field of sociology and the culture in general. I hope to combine my personal interest with the education and practical knowledge gained from your program to help advance the field of sociology in my country. The MA in Sociology offered by your school is integral to my goals, and I therefore sincerely hope that you will give me a chance to develop my skills and further reinforce my capabilities in your esteemed department.

Passage:

But I want to say one last important thing. Some people think that arguing is always bad. This is not true. Conflict is a normal part of life, and dealing with conflict is an important part of any relationship, whether it's three people sharing a flat, a married couple, or just two good friends. If you don't learn to argue properly, then when a real problem comes along, you won't be prepared to face it together. Think of the smaller arguments as training sessions. Learn how to argue cleanly and fairly. It will help your relationship become stronger and last longer

Answer:

If you don't learn to argue properly, then when a real problem comes along, you won't be prepared to face it together.

  • When you are giving an argument, there is no need to raise your voice as it shows weakness.
  • Choosing the right words and keeping your voice low are practices that keep arguments under control.
  • If we don't learn to put forward our argument properly, you will face embarrassment in front of everyone.

Andrew reaches the conclusion that all these marriages were dismal failures based on the episode he had witnessed at Cardiff station. It obsessed him morbidly as he thought about Bramwell, who was foolishly devoted to a woman who deceived him sordidly. Then he thought of Edward Page who was bound a shrewish Blodwen, of Denny who was living an unhappy life being away from his wife. All these relationships led him to draw such a conclusion and he winced from this realization. He wished to consider marriage as an idyllic state because the only thing the image of Christine permitted him to conceive of. Her shining eyes admitted no other conclusion. He was conflicted between listening to his level head or overflowing heart, leaving him resentful and confused.

After having delivered a stillborn child, Andrew found himself torn in conflict. The dilemma was to whether try and resuscitate the child first or to turn his attention to the mother, who was herself in a desperate state. Andrew instinctively gave the child to the nurse and frantically began his effort to restore the mother's ebbing strength. It took him some time and effort and finally the mother's heart strengthened. Then he moved his attention back to the child who lay pulseless under the bed.

After the baby was born, Andrew was faced with the dilemma whether to attend to the baby which was still-born in order to try to resuscitate it or to turn his attention rather to the mother, Susan Morgan, who was in a desperate state of health because of loss of blood and labour pain.

Andrew found the baby amongst wet newspapers under the bed. Its limp warm body was white and soft. Its head lolled on the thin neck. The limbs seemed boneless. The whiteness over the body meant suffocation caused by the lack of oxygen.

Carter encountered a problem when he reached the mummy, the ritual resins had hardened cementing Tut to the bottom of his solid gold coffin and no amount of legitimate force could move them. Since the Egyptian sun could beat down like a hammer in the far south of Egypt, Carter decided to leave the mummy out in the blazing sunshine to loosen the resins but to no avail. So he had chisel away the consolidated material from beneath the limbs and the trunk before it was possible to raise the king's remains. This was required otherwise thieves would have run off with the riches

ranga wanted a girl who love him and also understand him if he could not find the same he will became unmarried but by knowing about ratna some feelings grown up and he married with her and blessed by a son whose name was shyam

Mahi .... 5 years ago

Ranga was influenced by the English way of life in the matter of marriage. He was not in favour of arranged marriages of the time where the brides were quite young. He told the narrator that he was not getting married just then. He gave two reasons. First, he must find the right girl. She must be mature enough to understand his love-talk. Avery young girl might take his words spoken in love as words spoken in anger. He gives examples of a thirty year old officer who married a twenty-five year old lady and that of king Dushyanta falling in love with Shakuntla. The second reason he gave was that one should marry a girl one loves. During the course of the story we find a change in Ranga’s ideas about marriage. Not only is he fascinated by Rama Rao’s eleven year old niece Ratna, he also marries her in the old traditional way of arranged marriages.

One summer morning narrator’s cousin Mourad came to his house at four in the morning and woke him up by tapping on the window of his room. The narrator was surprised to see Mourad sitting on a beautiful white horse. Mourad asked him to be quick if he wanted to ride. The narrator, Aram, longed to ride and jumped down to the yard from the window and leaped up onto the horse behind his cousin Mourad. Since these Armenian families were quite poor, Aram concluded that Mourad must have stolen the horse. They rode and Mourad sang. Then Mourad had a joy ride alone. It seamed he had a way with a horse, for when Aram tried to ride alone, the horse threw him off and ran away. Since it was broad daylight, Mourad hid the horse in the ham of a deserted vineyard. That afternoon, farmer John Byro visited the narrator’s house and related his plight. His white horse had been missing for over a month. Uncle Khosrove silenced him with his roaring commands. Aram reported everything to Mourad and requested him to keep the horse till he learnt to ride. Mourad did not agree. A chance meeting with farmer John Byro after a fortnight firmed up his decision. John Byro had believed the boys since he knew their fathers and was fully aware of the fame of their family for honesty. Mourad returned the horse to its owner then next morning.

Mr. Crocker Harris is a middle-aged senior teacher in the same school where Frank is also a teacher. Mr. Harris teaches Latin to students. He is a very strict teacher and enjoys an admirable command over his students. He follows rules and regulations of the school quite meticulously. He is strict with his students; but he is not a sadist. He does not want his students to like him; he wants them to make sincere efforts in learning. He gives extra-work to students who show carelessness and make mistakes. Though he is strict, his students admire him.

In the story Mothers day, we see the story of a family. This story is set in the 1950s and reflects some of the practices during those times. We see that in the family everyone treats Mrs. Person like a servant and only look for her when they need some work to be done.
This happens because of the negligence on the part of Mrs. Pearson. Since she never opposes such behavior everyone in the family thinks that it is okay for them to treat her in such a way.

the reason behind ct scan of king tuts body was because researchers wanted to solve the enduring mystery about the cause that killed the Egypt boy pharaoh 3000 years ago.... A ct machine scanned the mummy head to toe, creating 1,700 digital x-ray images in cross section.tut's head, scanned in 0.62 millimeter slices to register its intricate structures, takes an eerie detail in the resulting image. In 1968,more than 40 years after Carter's discovery,an anatomy professor x-rayed the mummy and revealed a startling fact:beneath the resin that cakes his chest, his breast-bone and front ribs were missing.

A strong wind was blowing when Tut's body was being taken out of its resting place which was the Egyptian cemetery named the Valley of the Kings. There were dark clouds in the sky shielding the stars from view. There was something eerie in the atmosphere when Tut's body was disturbed. But the wind had stopped when the CT scan was over and Tut's body was brought back to where it belonged. It was winter and the wind was cold and still like death.

A man has to learn a lot of things from his past to face the present for a bright future. One can never learn only from imagination. We need to have solid, concrete proof in front of us to enhance our knowledge. E.g., if King Tut's mummy was not subjected to scientific scrutiny, we would never have known more about the great and the last heir of a powerful family that had ruled Egypt for centuries.   There is certainly a need to use scientific invention to find what happened to someone, centuries ago. If we want to know what happened long time back, we can read about it in History. The scientific, scrutiny of King Tut's mummy helped the modern world to discover a lot of things about the king that would, otherwise, have remained unknown. King Tut v/as the last heir of a powerful family who died young. Whether he has murdered or died a natural death is a matter of interest to archaeologists.
