Narrator's uncle Khoshrove was an enormous man and had a very large moustache.he was short-tempered, so irritable, impatient. Many times he even stopped people from talking by roaring. He didnt even let his own son tell him that their house was on fire and stopped him as well as the barber (he was having his moustache trimmed) by roaring. This might also show that he was pretty rude and careless.

Gaurav Seth 5 years, 5 months ago

The narrator’s uncle was considered to be a crazy man. Actually, he was the natural descendant of the crazy streak in the family. He was a huge and powerful man. He had a big strong head with black hair. He was a man of furious nature. He was short tempered and of irritable nature. He would not let anybody talk before him. He would stop him shouting. “It is no harm ; pay no attention to it.”

Man becomes resourceful through knowledge. Socrates said that “one who had true knowledge could not be other than virtuous”. Knowledge is sine qua non for every spheres of human life—physical, social, moral, spiritual and economic. Great philosophers Socrates, Aristotle, Dante, Comenim, Bacon have propounded knowledge as an important aim of education.

In the narrow sense, knowledge aim implies “Knowledge for the sake of knowledge”. In its wider sense, it means development of mental powers-thinking, reasoning, discrimination, judgement, memory, problem solving, imagination, intelligence etc. True knowledge consists in possessing ideas of universal validity and universal relevance.

In other words, knowledge and wisdom must be for the good of the greatest number. Further, knowledge acquisition should not be considered as an end in itself. Rather it should be a means to other ends—individual development, civil efficiency, economic competency, living a richer and healthy life, welfare of the humanity, etc.

Thus, reception and utilization of knowledge is essential element in knowledge aim of education.

The narrator had always seen his grandmother dressed in spotless white saree . His hair were silvery and her locks used to spread over the pale and wrinkled face. The narrator described her to look like an expense of pure white serenity. He also compared the mountains full of snow cover to look equally peaceful as his grandmother face.

The grandmother used to do so because she wanted her grandson to have faith in God just like she did. She also wanted the young child to know his prayers by heart and recite them just like her. The grandmother felt that reciting her prayers loudly will help the grandson to understand them better.

Ranga was the son of the village accountant who sent him to Bangalore for studies. After six months he returned back. All villagers rushed to see any possible changes in his physique or manners. The author also went to see him. Ranga did a proper namaskar to him and the author was very much impressed with him. Ranga had his own peculiar views about marriage. He did not want to rush into it. He wanted to marry a mature girl. However, there is an irony about his views. In spite of having such clear and well defined views of marriage, he fell prey to immediate marriage, and that too with an eleven year old girl, Ratana!

The poet ( Khushwant Singh ) describes his grandmother as Short ,fat and a little Stooped. He also describes her as being not pretty in the traditional sense but her serenity made her beautiful as she always used to chant silent prayers from beads of rosary. She was always in spotless white.

They were very close to each other but the distance grew once he moved to city to further his academics.
