The author's grandmother had many admirable qualities in her. She was strong, spiritual, kind, generous, and courageous. She was a very strong woman who could adapt herself to any new challenging situation. May be she derived that strength from her devotion to God. For example, at the village she single handedly looked after herself and the author. Her real strength came to light when she was called to the city. Her life underwent change; her relationship with the narrator was deeply affected. She became more lonely and forlorn. However, she accepted the changes stoically. When the narrator went abroad, she endured the five year long separation courageously. At the close of her life also, she took a very courageous decision of not talking to any of the family members. She felt she had omitted to pray to God; so she decided to give all her time to praying to God. All the above mentioned examples prove she was a strong lady.

According to the poem, the process of growing up involves the attainment of mental maturity and loss of innocence and simplicity. A person is said to be grown up when he has become logical, rational and is able to build his own thoughts. A grown up has the power to distinguish between reality and fantasy.
A grown up individual understands the actions of others just as the poet recognized the hiatus between the preaching and the practice of the adults. He realizes the hypocrisy and the double standards maintained by the adults. A mature individual also asserts his thoughts and opinions.

There were many peculiarities in Uncle Khosrov's behavioir. He was an eccentric fellow. There were quite a few other characters in the Garoghlanian tribe who were like him. Mourad had taken after him as far as mental traits were concerned. His most idiosyncratic and peculiar characteristic was his typical response to any question or request put to him. He would react, "It is no harm; pay no attention to it." Once he was sitting at a barber’s shop, having his moustache trimmed. His son came running to tell him their house was on fire. He responded calmly saying, "It is no harm; pay no attention to it." The barber grew panicky and asked him to run home; however, Khosrove got annoyed and shouted at the barber, "It is no harm; pay no attention to it." Physically, he was an enormous man with a powerful head of black hair and the largest mustache in San Joaquin Valley. He was quite short tempered and impatient in dealing with others.

Over-population leads to the issues of poverty and unemployment. The vicious circle of population and poverty will continue unless the root cause i.e. population is taken care of. It hampers the development of a country. It leads to the consumption of the natural resources at a much faster rate. The fossils consumed, the resources depleted, the forests cleared, the heat produced, the global warming caused are all the repercussions of the fast- growing population. The present world population is estimated at 5.7 billion and every four days it increases by one million.
Development won‟t be possible if the population increases at this pace. Controlling the population will solve many a problems
