In gaseous phase, water molecule(H2O) has a bent form with a bond angle of 104.5°. The O–H bond length is 95.7 pm. The structure of H2O can be shown as:

Hydrogen peroxide has a non-planar structure both in gas and solid phase. The dihedral angle in gas and solid phase is 111.5° and 90.2° respectively. The structure of H2O2 can be shown as:

VSEPR theory can be explained as follows:
- The shape of any molecule can be explained by the repulsion between all the electron pairs that are present in the valence shell.
- The repulsion between two lone pairs is greater than the repulsion between a lone pair and a bond pair. Presence of a lone pair on the central atom causes slight distortion of the bond angles from their ideal values.
- The electronegativity difference between the central atom and the other atoms determines the magnitude of repulsion between the bonding pair of electrons.
- Triple bonds cause more repulsion than the double bonds. Similarly double bond causes more repulsion than a single bond.

(1) The supression degree of dissociation of weak electrolyte upon the addition of strong electrolyte having common ions between them is known as common ion effect.
(2) A substance's solubility product, Ksp, is the mathematical product of its dissolved ion concentrations with each concentration raised to the power of their stoichiometric coefficients.
For example the solubility product of ionic compound Ag2S is
Ksp =[Ag+]2[S-2]
(3) A solution which resists any change in its pH on dilution or on the addition of small amount of a strong acid or a strong alkali is called a buffer solution. It is formed by the combination of weak acid/base and its salt with strong base/acid.
