Covalency is the number of electrons an element shares.

Mehak Gautam 6 years, 4 months ago

Firstly , draw the Lewis structure of the molecule and then count the number of shared pairs of elecrons . Hence, by counting the number of bonds formed by the element you can calculate the covalency of that element .

The oxidation state of each oxygen atom is -1/2 since it is a superoxide ion.
Let the oxidation state of K be x.
x + 2(-1/2) = 0
2x-2 = 0
2x=2
x=+1
hence, oxidation state of k is +1

nswer:

A sample of pure water,whatever the source always contains 88.8% by mass of oxygen & 11.1%by mass of hydrogen.

The total amount of percentage is 100, therefore they are divided in a constant ratio.

H2O contains H and O in a fixed ratio by mass. It illustrates the law of constant composition or in other words law of conservation of energy. So, they are divided in a ratio of 1:8 therefore mass of Oxygen is 88.8%.

Stoichiometric Calculations are mostly based on chemical formulas.

  1. Formula Mass: It is defined as the sum of the atomic weights of the each atom present in the molecule of the substance. For example formula mass of Na2S is calculated as 2(23) + 1(32) = 78
  2. Avogadro number: Avogadro’s number is defined as the number of particles present in one mole of substance. It is defined as a number of atoms present in exactly 12g of C-12.Avogadro number is valued as 022× 1023
  3. Molar Mass: It is defined as the sum of the total mass of all the atoms that make up a molecule per mole.

The heisenberg's principle says that it is impossible to determine at any given instant, simulteneously both the position and momentum of subatomic particles like electrons with accuracy/certainity.

Raman Gupta 6 years, 4 months ago

According to hisenberg's principle it is impossible to know the position and momentum of atom simultaneously.

Donot go on directly the defination . see, electron is so small and if we want to get image of it we need light of wave length which is smaller than diameter of electron. so, light will have higher energy when it strikes electron and we will get the place where electron was but it will change velocity. When velocity changes momentum changes so heisenberg says that we cannot caculate velocity and momentum together

Gautam Prajapati 6 years, 4 months ago

It states that it is impossible to determine simultaneously, the exact position and exact momentum ( or velocity) of an electone (with accuracy) mathematically.

Another drawback... it says nothing about electronic structure of atom

Rahul Raj 6 years, 4 months ago

Major drawback.....according to rutherford's atomic model, electrons move at very high speed around nucleus. Btt according to electromagnetic theory of maxwell , if a charge particle undergoes accln , it emits radiation continiously. Applying this theory, calculation shows it will take only 10^-8 seconds to fall the electron on to the nucleus taking a spiral path which does not happen. In simple words u can say he didn't explain the stability of an atom .

Ayush Vishwakarma?? 6 years, 4 months ago

He does not give the max planck Quantum theory

Gautam Prajapati 6 years, 4 months ago

1. He could not able to explain the stability of an atom. 2. He could not explain the line spectrum of hydrogen atom.

According to Valence bond theory , covalent bond formation between the atoms when they have half-filled valence atomic orbitals, each containing a single unpaired electron.

Ayush Vishwakarma?? 6 years, 4 months ago

By this theory a covalent bond is formed between two atom by the overlapping of half filled valence atomic orbital..
