Across the period on moving left ro right, ionisation enthalpy increases because the effective neuclear charge increases due to successive increase in no. of electrons , so the energy required to remove the electron also increases

Hydrogen is a nonmetal and is placed above group in the periodic table because it has ns1 electron configuration like the alkali metals. However, it varies greatly from the alkali metals as it forms cations (H+) more reluctantly than the other alkali metals.Jun 5, 2019

The molar heat of combustion measures the amount of energy in a compound by measuring how much energy, in the form of heat, is released when the compound is burned. ... By multiplying the mass of water by the specific heat of water by the change in temperature, the molar heat of combustion can be calculated.

Consider 100 g of glass
So, mass of SiO2=100-(12.9+2.2+3.8+0.4)=80. 7 g
mass of B2O3= 12.9 g
Mass of 1 mole of SiO2 i.e. molar mass of SiO2=28+16×2=60 g
Now, 60 g of SiO2 contains 1 mol of Si atom
So, 80.7 g of SiO2 contains 160×80.7=1.345 mol of Si
Similarly, Molar mass of B2O3=2×10+3×16=68 g
Now, 68 g of B2O3 contains 2 mol of B atom
So, 12.9 g of B2O3 contains 268×12.9=0.379 mol of B
Ratio of Si:B = 1.345:0.379

According to octet rule, atoms combine with each other to have octet in their valence shell and achieve stable noble gas configuration

Pruthviraj Gurav 6 years, 3 months ago

Octet rule: Atoms can combine either by transfer of valence electrons from one atom to another (gaining or loosing) or by sharing of valence electrons in order to have an octet in their valence shells.

Saurabh Ojha 6 years, 3 months ago

The bonding in carbon dioxide (CO2): all atoms are surrounded by 8 electrons, fulfilling the octet rule. The octet rule is a chemical rule of thumb that reflects observation that elements tend to bond in such a way that each atom has eight electrons in its valence shell, giving it the same electronic configuration as a noble gas. The rule is especially applicable to carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and the halogens, but also to metals such as sodium or magnesium
