The Ionic Product of Water Kw is the equilibrium constant for the reaction in which water undergoes an acid-base reaction with itself. That is, water behaves simultaneously as both an acid and a base. At 298 K, the value of Kw is 1 x 10-14 mol2 dm-6.

The substance which can accept the electron pair donated by the Lewis base, they are termed as Lewis acid.
 is a compound which is made up of two atoms namely boron and fluorine.
The atomic number of boron is 5 and its electronic setup is 2, 3. Its valency is 3 and Flourine (2,7) valency is 1.
Consequently, by imparting 1 electron to every fluorine molecule, boron has 3 sigma bonds around it which means that each boron atom is surrounded by 6 electrons.
To have the steady octet setup Boron needs 2 additional electrons.
Since boron can accept a couple of electrons from Lewis base, it is considered as Lewis acid.

As you know, protic acid give proton in water , it is not a protic acid because it doesn't ionize in H2O to give a proton . it acts as Lewis acid by accepting electrons from a hydroxyl ion of water and in turn releases H+ ions.
e.g., B(OH)3 + HOH ----> [B(OH)4]- + H+

electron deficient species
They are electron loving species They always attack the substrate molecules at the site of Highest density They have strong tendency to attract electron from other sources and are also known as LEWIS ACID

Navneet Kaur 6 years ago

Electron loving species. Their attraction for electrons is due to the presence of an electron deficient atom in them.
