Wurtz - Fitting reaction:
Aryl halide and alkyl halide couple in presence of sodium metal / dry ether to form alkyl benzene.
For example, bromobenzene reacts with methyl bromide in presence of sodium. dry ether to form toluene.
C6H5−Br+CH3−Br+2Na → C6H5−CH3 + 2NaBr

Certain haloalkanes can undergo elimination in two different ways giving a mixture of two products. In such reactions, the preferred product is the more highly substituted alkene (i.e. the alkene having lesser number of hydrogens on the doubly bonded carbon atoms). This generalisation is known as Saytzeff’s rule.

Friedel Crafts alkylation reaction can be explained as the alkylation of an aromatic ring using an alkyl halide in presence of a strong Lewis acid which acts as a catalyst. In the following given reaction, AlCl3 is used as a catalyst and the aromatic ring taken is benzene.

Plaster of Paris
The chemical name of Plaster of Paris is Calcium Sulphate (CaSO4·½ H2O)).
It is obtained by heating the gypsum, CaSO4·2H2O, to 393 K.
2(CaSO4·2H2O) --> 2(CaSO4).H2O + 3H2O
It forms a plastic mass on addition of water which further gets hardened within 5-15 minutes.
It is extensively used in manufacturing decorating pieces, in repairing fractured bones or sprains.

Density and Molar Mass of a Gaseous Substance
- As per ideal gas equation,
pV = nRT
Or n/V = p/RT
- As we know n = Mass of Gas (m) / Molar Mass of Gas (M) = m/M
So, m/MV = p/RT
d/M= p/RT
- Or Molar mass = M = dRT/p

The reaction in which alkyl halides on treatment with sodium metal in dry ethereal (free from moisture) solution give higher alkanes is known as Wurtz reaction and is used for the preparation of higher alkanes containing even number of carbon atoms.
Example:
Methyl bromide on treating with sodium metal in dry ethereal solution gives ethane.
